BERAT BENANG KAIT

[INFO BENANG KAIT]- jom tambah ilmu!

Free Knitting Pattern: Baby Jewel Dress

Jewel

Few years ago, within the year of 2010, I was in the “crictical state” of having “knitting addiction”, whereby, almost everyday I’ll be -googling- patterns for babies like crazy :O. In search for the cutest pattern meanwhile, I found Clara Dress. Oh yes, it is the ultimate cutest dress i have ever seen. But well, unfortunately, I was not able to purchase this pattern as the dress pattern is sold only as a Kit. Though I was feeling disappointed, I just let it go.

Beberapa minggu, atau mungkin beberapa bulan yang lalu, saya terlihat salah seorang kenalan FB mengait saya membuat pattern ini berdasarkan gambar sahaja. Kagum saya melihat hasilnya. 🙂 (heheh)

Few weeks, or perhaps, months ago, I saw one of my FB acquaintance was doing the same pattern only by looking at the photo, she made her own version which to me, it looks 99% similar to the original dress. I am amazed :). She even wrote down her own note in a diagram form. However, I am not a person who do things from “Bottom up”. Thus, after thinking about this for a while, I decided to do a TOP DOWN version few days ago, by trial and error. But yet, whenever I start to knit something, my mind as well, started to imagine different kind of pattern to adapt in this dress, again and again. Oh, I really can’t help it and I just can’t stop myself “ruining” the dress. Well, as the pattern was at first, inspired by the Clara Dress, I finally made this dress as how you see in the photo above. What do you think about it? 🙂 Perhaps it looks “common” and “typical” but I still find it cute! *wink wink*

Jom!

Alhamdulillah, I have the opportunity to write down this pattern for free tonight. So, I hope you will enjoy knitting one. This cute dress can be a gift to your beloved friends who just got her baby or even you can knit one for your own lovely daughter. The size is adjustable according to yarns types and the needles used. Let’s knit!

Material:

1 Skein of MAGIC LIGHT ICE YARNS (100 gram/360 meter) – OR any Dk/8 ply
4.00 mm & 4.50 mm knitting needles
Scissor to cut
1 Button of your choice
Needle and thread to sew button

Skill Level: Advanced Beginner
Made for size: 6 months to 18 months old. (UPDATED: I made my little daughter who will turn to 3 yo soon to wear this dress and it comes out as a little cute tunic :). It fits her nicely)

Gauge (using 4.00 mm needle):

10 stiches = 2 inch
7 rows = 2 inch

Abbreviations:

CO: Cast on
Knit: K
Purl: P
Yarn over: Yo
Psso: Pass slip stitch over
Sl 1: Slip 1
Knit 2 sts together: K2tog
Slip slip knit: Ssk.
Sl2tog-k1-p2sso.: Slip 2 stitches as if to knit 2 stitches together, knit 1, pass 2 slipped stitches over
PM: place marker
Rpt: repeat

ARROWHEAD LACE (Edging)
Knitted in a multiple of 10 sts, + 1 and 4-row repeat.
Row 1: K all sts.
Row 2 :  K1, * (yo, ssk) twice, k1, (k2tog, yo) twice, k1; rep from * to end.
Row 3: K all sts.
Row 4: K2, * yo, ssk, yo, sl2tog-k1-p2sso, yo, k2tog, yo, k3; rep from * to last 9 sts, yo, ssk, yo, sl2tog-k1-p2sso, yo, k2tog, yo, k2.

NOTE:
1. Different weight of yarns will produce different size. My pattern using the recommended yarn will produce 6 months to 18 months old size. i notice that, if you continue to increase at least 2 more times before decrease (leaf), you can get 2 years old size. However, for the ARROWHEAD LACE Pattern, you have to recalculate that to match with the number of stitches.
2. If you want to make a smaller size without changing anything in this pattern, I recommend to use 5-ply/sport weight or change your needle to 3.50 mm or 3mm size then you will get 0 – 6 months old size.
3. Remember to check your gauge as everyone’s tend to knit with different tension.
4. Cast On Row 24 and Row 36 by using Thumb Cast On method.
5. Move your marker along while knitting. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE that if you need to track your count, use marker between each repeats of the leaf stitch pattern. It will helps!
UPDATED: I received a complaint about how my pattern should state the total number of stitches on every rows. Well, its just a simple math you know. You can calculate the number based on increase st and repeat on each rows. For example. You CO 63 sts. ON Row 7: K7, yo, *k3, m1, k1, m1, k3, yo* repeat * for 6 more times, K7. RED FONT is increase of 1 stitch. Now, you can calculate as follow:
ROW 7: 7 + 1 st inc + [ (3+1 st inc +1+1 st inc +3+1 st inc) x 7 times (6 times + the first step of *…*) ] + 7 = 85 stitches as total.
Hope this will help! 😉
INSTRUCTIONS:

Using 4.00 mm, Cast on 63 sts using long tail cast on method.

Free Crochet Pattern: January Baby/Toddler Beanie

Alhamdulillah.. we are still here, still breathing, still alive exactly on 1st January of 2014. Shouldn’t we be more grateful than before? 🙂 Well of course, there is nothing wrong in having a new big ambition for a new year, but remember. the fundamental of being a human is always to feel grateful for what we have and never being ashamed for what we don’t have. Always down to earth <3

However, the things that always never fail to amaze me is how the time works and always passed by like a blink of an eye. Leaving things behind like they were never happened. Feels like it was a dream, or a nightmare. SubhanAllah.. How great Allah is! Cause everything that happened, there is a blessing in disguise. SubhanAllah.

Oh, okay. The reason I am writing today is actually to share my new pattern 🙂
As how everyone else, I also want to take this opportunity and be a part on this exciting first of January 2014 with sharing my new pattern that I made 2 days ago. So I named it as January 🙂 Easy to remember hehe..

I am very happy to share the pattern with you and hope you will enjoy making them too. If you make one, do share with me at my Ravelry (Snowhitery) ok? 😉
